Jazz - Trombone admission requirements for MA – Magister studies

Jazz

  1. with a variety of tempos and characters styles (ballade, Latin, swing, duple metre and odd-numbered metre), a well-known jazz standard featuring soloist and improvisation. Among them, it is imperative to include bebop-style blues (medium or fast) “Rhythm Changes” and modulating II-V-I pieces (eg Ornithology, An Afternoon in Paris, Bluesette, Cherokee, Laura etc.) and ballads. An orchestral accompaniment is provided by the recruitment committee, but the candidates must take a suitable track for the accompaniment.
  2. Presentation of transcripts: featuring two outstanding trombonists improvisations with the original recording; two copies of the improvisation recorded by the applicant must be submitted to the examination committee.
  3. Performance of approx. 40 popular jazz standards as a repertoire, from memory, in original harmonization – theme and improvisation
  4. Sight-reading of a motif handed to the applicant at the examination, preferably with phrasing appropriate for the style.

Classical

  1. A stylish presentation of a performance piece from sheet music or from by heart (piano accompanist is provided by the candidate).
  2. Presenting an Etude:
    C. Kopprasch: No. 35, or Couillaud from 20 ether to XI, V. Blazsevics: Etude 22, or similar difficulty with Bordogni Vocalis
