Jazz Drum admission requirements for IGP studies - BA Studies

Sight reading:

  • the Music High School music material, arguing in snare drum
  • written full-jazz drum equipment, heavy material rhythm play (solo and accompaniment)
  • Kőszegi: Dobiskola I and II. and a booklet of Nestor: jazzdruming Rhythm Game & c. publications I, II. and III. Booklet knowledge of the appropriate level of reading material

Short solo drum improvisation – 2-3 minutes.

Drumming the following materials in the general styles and rhythms of jazz with piano and piano-double bass accompaniment:

Swing accompaniment and solo interlude (in 4 or 8 beats) with triplet and eighth note rhythm, in 4/4, 3/4 and 6/8 beats, with stick and wire brush. Solo performance in 4, 8, 12, 16 and 32 beats.

Accompaniment of a jazz ballade with stick and wire brush.

Accompaniment of Latin and Afro-American pieces – bossa-nova, samba, rumba, Afro-Cuban etc. – of different tempo (slow, middle and fast) with solo interludes.

Accompaniment of jazz-rock pieces with solo interludes.

Ad hoc accompaniment of a rubato piano piece.

Special theoretical admission requirement for jazz drummers: rhythm notation – notation of  drum accompaniment and drum solo performed on full drum set by ear.

sight reading from Béla Zsoldos: Üstdobiskola (’Timpani Exercises’)

Vibrafon:
1 performance pieces, blues performance

Career aptitude test:

The teacher aptitude test is done only in oral form. Consists of two parts:

  1. Talk of the auditioning student career plans attached application has already been prepared by auditioning and selection, based on a letter of motivation for teacher career choices.
  2. Based on a short few lines of text interpretation of a specific educational theme educational situation and express an opinion.

The aptitude test requires no special preparation ( from the literature curriculum )!

  1. During the test the student’s communication skills, personal motivation, awareness of speech and culture committee investigating the entrance exam.

The duration of the test: maximum 15 minutes
